Indian Street Food at Vik's Chaat & Market, Berkeley

The moment you walk into Vik's Chaat & Market in Berekely, California, you'll be greeted with the familiar aroma of Indian spices in the air.
While heading back to SFO from Napa Valley, we decided to cross the SF Bay bridge and drive through Berkeley. After a quick Google search and a few text messages to trusted friends, all recommendations led us to this popular spot serving freshly prepared Indian street food with an easy to follow menu that includes vegan and gluten free options.

Mango lassi
2.75
Slightly lumpy, this version of the mango lassi had more tartness from the yogurt and less sweetness, which I really enjoyed.

Chai
1.50
A hint of cardamom and too watery for me.

Lamb biryani
7.50
Loaded with rice and tender pieces of bone-in lamb seasoned with a generous amount of spices. This dish can also be ordered with chicken.

Dhokla
6
This spongey cake topped with coconut and cilantro is perfect with the side of mint chutney.

Masala dosa
7
The Indian crepe is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside served with a side of vegetable stew and comes in three versions: plain, masala, vegetarian.

Koliwada fish
7
Fried sea bass served with onion and chutney. The fish was tender and moist on the inside with a crispy seasoned coating.

Vik's is worth checking out if you're in the area and want a casual spot serving Indian fare. Come with a group to try more items on the menu.
