100% Angus Beef Burgers at Gott's Roadside, St. Helena

Gott's Roadside is a popular walk up burger joint located on the main stretch of St. Helena, CA. The menu has over nine burgers from the standard hamburger to a fully loaded Texas avocado burger. The burger patties are made with 100% Angus beef from Niman Ranch. The cows are vegetarian feed and contain no hormones nor no antibiotics. On top of that, everything is made to order with locally sourced ingredients. And if that doesn't do anything for you, Gott's also serves beer and wine in addition to shakes. This is a great place to fuel up before hitting up so many wineries you loose count and find yourself thanking the Uber driver that got you back to the hotel in one piece.

Chili Cheese Fries
5.89
Why get fries when you can have chili cheese fries right? This sounded great on paper, but didn't quite hit the spot. The house made chili had too many kidney beans and there wasn't enough cheese to go around. Just the fries next time.

Cheeseburger
7.99
Although the Texas avocado burger did call out to me, a cheeseburger just sounded so satisfying. The patty was 1/3 pound and cooked to a medium well, served on toasted egg buns. The buns were light and fluffy on the outside and crispy on the inside. The patty had great beef flavor and just enough lettuce and tomato to add freshness to each bite. Juicy, flavorful, and the right ratio of ingredients between the buns makes for a damn good burger.

Tip: Gott's offers lettuce wrap as an option on all their burgers, but the bun really does make the burger.

Organic Vegan Mediterranean Food at Fala Bar, West Hollywood

Fala Bar serves up fresh, organic, vegan and gluten free Mediterranean food in West Hollywood. Their ingredients are locally sourced and made to order. With the exception of their pita bread, everything on the menu is or can be made gluten free. The pita sandwiches can be substituted with a cabbage wrap, which is quite tasty albeit rather messy. The food is balanced, fresh, filling and energizing. Add the fact that it's down the street from our temporary work office, it's makes for a good go to lunch spot.

Baba Plate
8.50
This version of baba ghanoush is light and doesn't have a grilled flavor. It came with tahini, Israeli salad, and quinoa tabouli. I added an order of sweet potato falafel's to the plate for an extra $3. The falafel's are light and crunchy with a very subtle spice mix.

Hummus Plate
8.50
The garbanzo hummus plate came with tahini, brussels sprout quinoa salad and quinoa tabouli. There also had a selection of seasonal garnishes for customers to choose from.

Fala Me To KALEifornia
13.50
This is one of the most popular items and my go to. You can't see it in the photo, but there is lemony kale at the bottom topped with garbanzo beans, quinoa, purple cabbage, shredded carrots and avocado. There's no dressing for this salad, but all the components add their own distinct flavor that a dressing isn't necessary.

If you find yourself on this stretch of Melrose Avenue in need of a vegan and organic lunch spot, check out Fala Bar.

Best Cherry Picking in Leona Valley

Ever since we discovered Copeland's Cherry Ranch in 2009, we have been coming back year after year to pick their sweet and certified organic cherries. In addition to cherries, they also offer sweet wild flower honey, whipped honey, duck eggs and freshly baked desserts made with cherries from the ranch. Having visited many cherry picking spots in the area, Copeland's is by far the best!

The ranch offers five cherry varieties: tieton, Utah giant, bing, rainier and benton. Each tree is marked with a colored flag with the name of the variety written on it. This comes in handy when you're walking around the ranch and all the trees start to look alike.

The Utah giant is our favorite followed by tieton and bing. These crisp and sweet cherries are hard to resist. One word of advice: pick more than you think you can eat! Before you know it, these delicious cherries will be all gone and you'll wish you had picked more.

Be sure to say hi to David and Chari Copeland. They are the proud owners of this cherry ranch.

And don't forget to check out the gorgeous heritage ducks roaming around the property. Their eggs are absolutely delicious! Happy cherry picking.
