Frito Pie at Flaming Saddles Saloon, New York

Everyone should try a Frito pie. On our way back to the hotel, my co-worker told us about a street food fair on 9th Avenue and a food stall that was selling Frito pies. The minute he mentioned chili, cheese and Frito chips, I was sold! As it turns out, these Frito pies are a regular item on the menu at Flaming Saddles Saloon.

With an endless selection of food stalls serving up regular fare, we were happy to try something new and different.

So what is a Frito pie you ask? This diagram does a good job of explaining it in detail.

Here's a close up shot of the finished product. A bag of Fritos topped with Texas style chili, cheddar cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, German mustard and onions. The best way to describe this is a party in my mouth. The crunchy Fritos mixed with meaty chili and the tang from the sour cream plus the gooey cheese and subtle heat from the jalapeno created an explosion of flavors. I can't believe I've never had a Frito pie until now and I definitely can't wait to serve it at the next BBQ.
